“We’re not driven by market research or whatever other people do. We’re just doing what feels right and funny to us. If that makes us weirdos, that’s fine. If we were ever described as ‘average,’ that would be the end of the magazine.” NYT’s Lucky Peach profile

If there was ever an American flamboyance, it happened in those 25 years from ’50 to ’75, and it had to do with the blues, R&B, rock ’n’ roll, big cars, and giant breasts - Iggy Pop […..]

Richard Hell on live music as told to Kurt Vile
I’m not into concerts. I’m not into live music. I’d rather listen to a record. I don’t like being in crowds, and live shows don’t usually sound good. Plus they’re usually fake; bands pretend that it’s spontaneous but they’re doing exactly what they did the night before. It’s hot and smelly and unpleasant. When I toured, I found the clubs so depressing. The whole thing would be depressing. You’d...

The latest episode of On The Media featured two of the darkest and most fascinating interviews I’ve heard in months. The first was with former News Of The World reporter Paul McMullen. The second was with Is Anyone Up’s borderline sociopathic (in a good way!) Hunter Moore.
Occasionally that show does it better than all others.

“I’m looking at the coming year and thinking what am I going to give up?” - David Carr indirectly describing twitter anxiety. Incredible interview. Listen to it twice.

Yung God's YouTube Zan
Wholly adopting the oft-studied but, outside of a select few, hardly practiced distribution model of the internet as an extension of the entertainer’s self, Yung God is another rapper who could become a conversation starter solely by virtue of the hundreds of songs he’s putting out there. Though it requires only a 10 second listen to any Yung God song to determine he’s not...
“Because I felt I was picking up problems of friends, I went to a psychiatrist in Greenwich village and told him all about myself. I told him my life story and how I didn’t have any problems of my own and how I was picking up my friends’ problems, and he said he would call me to make another appointment so we could talk some more, and then he never called me. As I’m...

Proper gchatting Techniques: How to write an away...
This was written by my friend Richard Louis (not Lewis) and serves as a critical lesson in gchat away message writing. Rich was saying that this was inspired by a WFMU dj, dave the spazz maybe. It’s an open challenge to average g chat users who endlessly abuse the away message function.
“Hi, this is Rich. Yeah, welcome to the club. I know that we’ll be sharing some great times...

“I have lived with the prospect of an early death for the last 49 years. I’m not afraid of death, but I’m in no hurry to die. I have so much I want to do first. I regard the brain as a computer which will stop working when its components fail.” - Stephen Hawking
“Why would I talk to a TV executive at this point, and ask them what they think?” he said. “If I have this idea for a TV show,” he noted, “I can just put it up on the Internet.”
